Blogging from my phone

I'm not a technology lovin' kinda girl.  I can hardly work our universal remote in the living room.  I do love social media and I enjoy blogging.  I need to figure out how to post from my phone. I haven't been able to sit down at a computer for any form of writing in months.   I'm on instagram a lot these days posting our adventures with our rescued Springer Spaniels.  Paragraphs are our friends. :) How do I start a new paragraph on this thing?   Gah!  Be blessed and be a blessing.  Xoxo

My Beautiful Boy Graduates High School

Happy Summer to you all.

My last child and only son has graduated high school
and is preparing for college this fall.

*Sigh*

Where does the time go?
My favorite thing about him is his beautiful, tender heart.
My second favorite thing is his humor.

And have I mentioned, this kid young man has class?
11 years of homeschooling, and I didn't ruin him!
I win!

The books I have read were composed by generations of fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, teachers and disciples. I am the sum total of their experiences, their quests.
And so are you.”   ~  Elie Wiesel

Fridge Magnet Humor

Greetings to all my lovelys.

Still super stressed over here.  Took on too much and have to get it done ASAP.

Bit off more than I can chew.
Too many irons in the fire.
Burning candles at both ends.
My eyes were bigger than my stomach.

Any more idioms?

Thought I would stop in to say hello and give you a grin for your Monday.
I'm wondering if my 17 year old son has trust issues.
Therapy maybe?  No.......they will just blame the mother.

These magnets are hilarious.
When his friends come over for a visit,
they all have to make a stop at the fridge to shock me with a new sentence or two.

((((((((((((group hugs)))))))))))))
Be at peace.  Be kind.  Be grateful

Orange Julius Snack

I've got tons of oranges waiting to be juiced.

My son and his girlfriend had never had an Orange Julius.
I was suprised.  I explained how they were a big thing in the 80's.

You always got one at the mall when you were shopping...

Save those orange peels ~ Here is how you can use them
They laughed the, "Ohhhh Mom, you're sooooooo old" laugh and
had a good chuckle over my 80's throw back.  (brats)

The skeptical "yutes" were amazed and LOVED them.
They each had 2 or 3 in one afternoon.

Here is the recipe I have
(although you can google it and see there are dozens of ways to make one)

Orange Julius

1 Cup Milk
2 Cups Orange Juice
2 Capfulls Vanilla
1/4 Cup Sugar
Ice
(I also threw in a large spoonfull of vanilla
yogurt just to thicken)

Put in a blender and mix till smooth.

I did a HUGE favor for them the other day.
I said I would do the favor in exchange for photos (cuz I'm the mama-razzi)
This is what I got!

(They love me way more than they would ever admit)

Winter Garden ~ Void, but not for long

May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us-yes, establish the work of our hands. ~ Psalm 90:17

Last year we had a wonderful winter garden.  This year, not so much.
We are preparing the soil for planting now.
We can't garden in the summer here.  We garden, fall, winter and spring.
Summer gardening in Florida is a no-go.

Aren't winter yards sad sometimes?  What does yours look like?
Is it covered with snow?
Grateful for a son who worked in the garden without being nagged.  What a sweet boy.

You will eat the fruit of your labor;
blessings and prosperity will be yours. ~ Psalm 128:2

Blessings to you.
Be a blessing to others.

The Children's Hour at 17...it's possible

Between the dark and the daylight,
When the night is beginning to lower,
Comes a pause in the day's occupations,
That is known as the Children's Hour...

(just a pinch of Longfellow for your day)

One of my greatest blessings is how my quiet, reserved, cautious, but ever so sweet
17 year old son, still allows me in his life.  He lets me into his world late at night before bed.  He shares with me his day.  His hurt feelings.  His hopes.  His to-do list.
His loves.  How his friends are doing.  His enemies and who needs prayer the most
He sometimes brings his phone and shares Tumbler jokes and we laugh till we cry.

I treasure these brief few minutes he gives me because I know most mothers are "cut off" by this age. And although I am publicly cut off from all forms of affection,
which I understand and am cool with now (just barely)...
privately, I'm still his mother.  He likes talking to me and we're still buddies.

He doesn't like me very much during the day because he's grumpy or I'm bossy, but at 10:30 PM each evening, peace is declared and Mom and Teenager are friends. Friends on his terms only, which I have gradually come to terms with myself. No matter how much it hurts, he has to pull away and go his own way. Cutting the cord is a good thing, right?

Soon, he'll be gone, living his own life. I hope my kids look back on their childhood and treasure the "Children's Hours" we've spent, whispering the private language spoken within families.

Good night sweet boy. Thank you for letting me in your world and for allowing these photos,
even though you hate my camera. :)

... I have you fast in my fortress,
And will not let you depart,
But put you down into the dungeon
In the round-tower of my heart.

And there will I keep you forever,
Yes, forever and a day,
Till the walls shall crumble to ruin,
And moulder in dust away!

Because we miss Princess Peach

My son and his sweetheart.

*
"An aware parent loves all children he or she meets and interacts with - for you are a caretaker for those moments in time." - Doc Childre.
(one of my all time most favorite quotes)
*
Princess Peach is a little camera shy, as well as my 17 year old son.  I thought this set of photos was funny.  My son was protecting his princess from the
wicked, fire breathing dragon mother with a camera.

Princess Peach is a teeny, tiny thing and my son is a beastly offensive lineman type.
They are like Beauty and the Beast.  They have been friends for 6 years at church.  They finally decided to make a go of it this fall and see where Providence takes them.

They are the cutest couple.
She's in St. Louis for the holidays and he is MISERABLE.  Poor guy, I feel so sorry for him.  She's a wonderful artist and loves "Smashing" so we cut up 3 magazines full of words and sent her a care package today.  I hope she enjoys gluing on the long trip back home to Florida.

Enjoy the pictures.
I hope they make you smile.

A week in Greens

Just a little glimpse at our week.
I noticed a trend.  :)

I have been very busy with the etsy store and my new booth.  If I go for a long time without sewing, I get grumpy.  Hand work is my savior, as it keeps my brain cleansed of twaddle and worry.  It's good to empty it out and meditate or pray while your fingers are busy accomplishing something loving...usually a gift or something to keep my family warm, safe and cuddled.

Pooh picked out 2 shades of Green for me to use.
Baby Milo's quilt.  I was inspired by those cute, scrappy confetti quilts.  I'm calling this
"The Emerald City Quarry".
LOL
It fits, yes?

A quiet homeschool moment.  He doesn't like it when I take his picture.  I told him to chill out, I was taking a picture of my lamp.  He wasn't buying it.

A friend brings balloons.

Oh, and here is the backing.  It's Ten Little Things, from Jenn Ski, Moda.  It looks like Lily Rose Quilts at Etsy has a lot of it.  Support small business and Etsy.  :)

And in the spirit of greening, a little quote from Anne of Green Gables

"I do NOT like patchwork," said Anne dolefully, hunting out her
workbasket and sitting down before a little heap of red and white
diamonds with a sigh. "I think some kinds of sewing would be
nice; but there's no scope for imagination in patchwork. It's
just one little seam after another and you never seem to be
getting anywhere. But of course I'd rather be Anne of Green
Gables sewing patchwork than Anne of any other place with nothing
to do but play. I wish time went as quick sewing patches as it
does when I'm playing with Diana, though. Oh, we do have such
elegant times, Marilla. I have to furnish most of the
imagination, but I'm well able to do that. Diana is simply
perfect in every other way."

Waiting for my son...

After all is said and done...
and our children are grown and gone...
have been raised and graduated...
careers,
married off,
etc...

How much of our time as parents was spent

And yet, I dare not complain!
(bite my tongue and God forbid it)

My daughter is a junior in college and will marry her fireman in 2 months.
During her freshman year at Florida College,
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed her coming home to do laundry.
Who knew I would miss dirty laundry so much?
Her dirty laundry was such a comfort and for the first time I could ever remember,
I actually enjoyed doing it.
Yes, it's true.
I did my grown daughter's laundry because it smelled soooooo good.
What's more comforting than the smell of our children???

You miss the unmade beds.
You miss the 4 dirty plates in the sink, where now there are only 3.
You miss their friends being over all the time and the messes they make as they try on 13 different outfits to look good for the boy they liked that week

Last Thursday, I sat in the car and waited for my son while he was in his homeschool co-op.
I've been forbidden (ouch) from thrift store shopping for the rest of the month,
so I brought my quilting along...the almost finished wedding quilt.
(Can't believe I actually did what my husband told me to do!!  Go me!!)
I sat there and waited for over 2 1/2 hours
The radio was my company.
The windows were rolled down.
A perfectly warm breeze (not too hot, not too cold) was blowing.
The citrus trees are blooming in our area so the air smells heavenly now.  It was a peaceful time.
  Waiting.

I don't think I'll miss waiting 2 1/2 hours for my son,
but my heart knows better...

I'll miss waiting for him terribly.

Sick Son in a Quilt

My 6'2", 215 lb,
15 year old little boy
has the flu.

A really bad flu.

Princess Peach has the flu as well, but she's 30 minutes away at school and I haven't had as much opportunity to baby her, as I have my boy.
Is there anything more pitiful than your sick child? My son never gets sick, so it's been a long time since I've felt that helpless heartache. *sniff* There is nothing you can do but wait and watch as the virus runs its course, hoping the fever doesn't get too high and doing your best to comfort with Jell-O and juice. Crackers and cool rags. Coddling and quilts.

His fever was so high one night I was afraid to go to sleep. I know he would have been fine, but what if he needed me?  My kids are old enough to be sick alone, but it's just not as much fun, is it? I always feel so guilty when I wake up in the morning to find my child was sick through the night and they were too afraid to wake us up. What? That's what I live for...to take care of my family. No one is to ever be sick alone in this family.

Love begins by taking care of the closest ones - the ones at home.

Post Christmas update la la la...

Hey there folks. Been busy here in Florida trying to keep warm, reading, quilting, cleaning and snuggling.

All our Christmas company (we had 11 people here at one time) went back home to the great state of Texas (without me). Boo hoo. This is my mom with 4 grandchildren. Who is ready to open presents and is sick of taking pictures? LOL

My daughter left for her second semester at college. This is her in the green. She's the oldest grandchild and everyone's right hand girl. Our home doesn't glow nearly as bright when her light is gone.

My husband left to work in Pennsylvania. I'm um....pretty certain he's coming home at the end of this week...Lord willing. :)

My son and I are working hard on his school, and started back to co-op last week.

I've bound 4 quilts, started a new one and my fingers are super sore. Ouch. No, I can't use a thimble. I try, but I can't. "Tex" is what I'm called by the people who will receive this baby quilt. I guess if your going to be called something other than your name, Tex is at least a kind endearment

...But the real reason my poor blog has been abandoned is because I got a Kindle for Christmas and I've read 4 books. Time to put it down and get the house put back together. I still need to put Christmas away. Yikes! Look at my domesticated "shadows". They go every where with me and they think they own the place. They're always invading my body bubble!
